If Saadiyat is the city's quiet side, Yas is its adrenaline. A purpose-built leisure island reclaimed from the Gulf, it packs five theme parks, a Formula 1 circuit, one of the region's largest malls, a marina, a golf course and a buzzing waterfront into one flat, easy-to-navigate place — all minutes from the airport. You can ride the world's fastest roller coaster and be on the beach by sunset. Most people plan a day; the island easily fills two or three.
The theme parks
Yas is the UAE's theme-park capital, and the headline parks sit right next to one another. Ferrari World is the original — home to Formula Rossa, the world's fastest roller coaster, plus 40-odd rides, a genuine Ferrari driving experience, and a Roofwalk across the building's vast red roof.
Yas Waterworld is an Emirati-themed water park that has grown past 70 rides and slides after its 2026 expansion, including Matamir's Drop, billed as the UAE's tallest waterslide. Warner Bros. World is fully indoor and air-conditioned — a comic-book city of DC superheroes and classic cartoon characters, ideal when it's hot outside.
SeaWorld Yas Island is the newest of the big parks: a five-floor marine-life destination built around the region's largest multi-species aquarium, with sharks, rays, turtles and immersive exhibits. Round it out with CLYMB, home to the world's biggest indoor skydiving chamber and the region's tallest indoor climbing wall.
Insider tips
- Buying a multi-park pass works out far cheaper than separate tickets.
- Some island hotels include theme-park entry with the room rate.
- Save the indoor parks (Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld) for the hottest hours.
- Arrive at opening to beat the queues on headline rides.
Speed at the circuit
Yas Marina Circuit is the floodlit track that hosts the season-ending Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix each year — a huge weekend of racing paired with the Yasalam after-race concerts. Outside race week, you can get on the track yourself with karting and high-performance driving experiences, or take a behind-the-scenes tour of the pit lane, garages and podium.
A local favourite is the circuit's evening sessions, when sections open up for jogging and cycling beneath the blue-and-purple LED lights — a surreal, free way to experience an F1 track.
Yas Bay, the marina & the mall
Yas Bay Waterfront is the island's social heart after dark — a strip of restaurants, beach clubs and bars (think Café del Mar and Buddha-Bar) wrapped around Etihad Arena, the indoor venue that draws up to 18,000 for big-name concerts and sport. Nearby, Yas Marina lines up superyachts alongside waterside dining.
For shopping and a cool-down, Yas Mall is one of Abu Dhabi's largest — hundreds of stores across multiple levels, dozens of restaurants, and a large multiplex cinema.
Beaches, golf & the outdoors
It's not all adrenaline. Yas Beach runs for around 400 metres of soft sand backed by mangroves, with calm, shallow water that suits families. Yas Links is a championship golf course regularly rated among the region's best, and the island's flat, well-built cycle paths make getting around on two wheels a genuine pleasure.
Getting there & planning
Yas sits about 10–15 minutes from downtown, roughly 15 minutes from Zayed International Airport, and around 45 minutes from Dubai. There's no charge to enter the island itself — only the attractions are ticketed — and a free hop-on hop-off shuttle loops between the main parks and hotels, so you can easily go car-free once you arrive.
Looking ahead, a Disney resort has been announced for Yas Island, set to add another major draw to the waterfront in the coming years. For now, plan two to three days if you want to do the parks justice without rushing.
Insider tips
- Stay on the island if theme parks are your focus — you can walk or shuttle between most of them.
- Downtown and Saadiyat are a short drive away when you want a change of pace.
