Where to Shop in Abu Dhabi

9 min read

Shopping in Abu Dhabi spans gleaming designer malls, family-sized entertainment complexes and atmospheric traditional souks. Whether you are after luxury labels, a gold bargain or a souvenir with a story, here is the full map — mall by mall and souk by souk.

The flagship malls

Two malls top the list. Yas Mall on Yas Island is the emirate's largest — around 400 stores under a sculpted skylight, a 20-screen VOX cinema, the Fun Works family zone and direct access to Ferrari World and CLYMB. The Galleria Al Maryah Island is the luxury flagship: its diamond-shaped glass dome houses the city's densest run of designer houses — Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Cartier and Bvlgari — alongside Bloomingdale's, Macy's and headline restaurants like Zuma and LPM.

Reem Mall & the family destinations

The newest big player is Reem Mall on Al Reem Island: 400-plus stores, an Eataly food hall and a large Carrefour, plus Snow Abu Dhabi — the capital's first indoor snow park — all under one roof. For all-day family trips, Dalma Mall in Mussafah pairs around 450 stores with the Adventure HQ activity park, while Marina Mall on the Breakwater offers waterfront shopping, an observation tower and a trampoline park beneath the Corniche skyline.

The city-centre malls

Closer to downtown, Abu Dhabi Mall (linked to the Beach Rotana in the Tourist Club area) and the vast, local-favourite Al Wahda Mall on Hazza Bin Zayed Street cover everyday brands, electronics and dining. Further out, community malls including Mushrif Mall, Khalidiyah Mall, Deerfields, Bawabat Al Sharq in Baniyas and My City Centre Masdar serve their neighbourhoods. Malls here are social hubs — air-conditioned, family-friendly and open until midnight on weekends.

Insider tips

  • Weekend mall hours usually run to midnight; weekdays to 10–11pm.
  • An Aldar gift card works across Yas Mall and other Aldar malls.

The souks & traditional markets

For character, head to the markets. The Gold Centre and souk around Madinat Zayed sell jewellery by weight; the Carpet Souk at Mina Zayed is stacked with Persian, Afghan and machine-made rugs; and Mina Zayed also holds the lively fish, fruit-and-vegetable and plant markets. The World Trade Center Souk downtown — a Norman Foster design with a retractable roof — reinvents the souk in a modern setting, while the Venetian-style canals of Souk Qaryat Al Beri make for an atmospheric browse beside the Shangri-La.

Insider tips

  • Polite bargaining is expected in the souks — start gently and stay friendly.
  • Tourists can reclaim VAT on eligible purchases at the airport — keep your receipts.

Local & artisan

For gifts with more meaning, the arts venues on Saadiyat — Manarat Al Saadiyat and the NYUAD Art Gallery — along with seasonal pop-up markets around the city, showcase Emirati designers, dates and camel-milk chocolate, oud and perfumes, and handmade crafts that beat any airport souvenir.
